Idarilearn is an AI-powered mobile learning platform that delivers curriculum-aligned education to deaf children and young people aged 6–25 in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa, using Nigerian Sign Language, real-time sign recognition, and adaptive learning technology.
How much does Idarilearn cost?
Idarilearn is completely free to use. It is built as an open-source solution, making it freely adaptable by schools, NGOs, and governments across Africa. We believe no child should be excluded from learning because of cost.
Do I need to know sign language to use it?
No prior sign language knowledge is required — from children or parents. Idarilearn teaches both simultaneously, from the very first sign. This was one of our most important design decisions, based on feedback from over 300 community interviews.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Idarilearn is designed for low-bandwidth environments and works fully offline once content is downloaded. This is critical for learners in rural communities where data costs are high and connectivity is unreliable.
What phones does Idarilearn work on?
Idarilearn is designed specifically for low-cost Android smartphones, ensuring it can reach families who cannot afford premium devices. An iOS version is also planned for later in 2025.
